Preschool applications will be
available on October 15, 2009.

Background

Kamehameha has 83 preschool classrooms at 30 locations statewide. These are community preschools with specific boundaries for eligibility.

The majority of our preschools serve both three and four-year-olds.
 

Who May Apply to Preschool for the 2010-2011 School Year

Children who were born in the calendar year 2006 (for our four-year-old program).

Children who were born in the calendar year 2007 (for our three-year-old program).

Children whose parents or legal guardians are legal residents of the region/community that the preschool serves.
 

All 3- and 4-year-old Children Who Apply Must Be:

    • Fully toilet trained
    • Able to dress/undress self
    • Able to feed self with fork/spoon and drink from a cup
    • Able to understand and follow simple one-step directions
    • Able to separate from parents/primary caregiver with minimal disruption
    • Independently mobile
    • Able to demonstrate safe behaviors which do not pose a direct threat to self and others

Selection Process

Admission to all preschools is by random computer selection (lottery).

Only applicants who meet the January 30th priority deadline are included in the initial lottery.

Vacancies are filled by applicants who were included in the initial lottery but not selected for admission.
 

Late Applications

Late applications are accepted, however, late applicants will not be considered for admission unless all applicants in the initial lottery are selected.

If all applicants included in the initial lottery are selected, late applicants will be considered to fill any additional vacancies according to the receive date of their application.
