Cognitive Health

Academics are important, but it’s not the only thing that we care about. To help students thrive we focus on supporting the whole child. Student-centered social emotional learning (SEL) provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, focusing on the students’ social and emotional development, thereby enhancing their ability to succeed in school, careers, and as a contributing member of their community and the lāhui. We believe that education is also the primary prevention for many health and behavioral risks.

Sharpening emotional and intellectual skills – including managing emotions and resolving conflict – is the goal of social emotional learning (SEL) implemented in KS classrooms. SEL has been shown to raise student success in school, careers, and life.

Measures that have been taken to nurture our students’ cognitive health include:

  • Implementing a Tri-Campus Tactical Plan wherein SEL education and academic supports are systemic
  • Assuring that our curriculum, programming and activities focus on the whole child
  • Finding new ways to add well-being curriculum into the classroom
