Hawaiian Culture & Spirituality

As an institution grounded in Hawaiian Culture and Christian values, we deeply believe in the importance of the well-being of a student’s culture, spirit and soul. Kamehameha Schools supports haumāna in their development into empowered Native Hawaiians who lead and serve their community.

Kids rooted in their culture have a higher sense of well-being and resilience. A culture-based curriculum adding ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i as a graduation requirement will ensure that our haumāna grow into strong local and global leaders who will lift our lāhui.

Measures that have been taken to help our students embrace their Hawaiian culture and spirituality include:

  • A new core graduation requirement for ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i
  • Cultivating spiritual well-being by engaging ‘ohana through Hawaiian culture-based education
