FEATURED JOB:  MANAGER, SUSTAINABILITY & ʻĀINA-BASED LEARNING

We're searching for an ʻĀina-Based Learning Manager to work at our Kapālama Campus in Honolulu and lead and oversee the development and maintenance of campus-based sites for ʻāina-based education and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate is someone who loves the ʻāina and its stewardship work, strives to understand the ʻāina from a Hawaiian cultural lens, possesses a passion for education, and has an ability to connect both from which haumāna can learn and grow their own connections. This position will balance land management with education, co-designing teaching and learning experiences with kumu. Those who demonstrate mālama through their actions; resilience; flexibility in interactions with the ʻāina, keiki, and kumu; and can work independently will do well in this position. Great understanding of Hawaiian culture is integral to this work.

The following qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline, or equivalent proven performance.
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in education-based agriculture, K-12 ‘āina based learning, school sustainability, school-based conservation partnerships, education, natural and cultural resource management, or land operations management or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of management, supervisor, or lead experience.
  • Knowledge of Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards and experience with curriculum development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of school garden design and maintenance, along with a passion for farm-to-school issues and practices (traditional and modern), including education, environment, health, agriculture, and sustainability.
  • Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Aptitude for collaborating with teachers, schools, community groups, volunteers and partnering with various community agencies.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history, and/or language.
