Inaugural Keiki Street Festival Brings ʻĀina- and Culture-Based Family Fun to Our Kakaʻako

On Saturday, March 11, from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., the first-ever Keiki Street Festival will fill two blocks of Our Kakaʻako with educational ʻāina-based and Hawaiian cultural activities, local food vendors and a variety of retailers, offering a day of fun and enrichment for the entire ʻohana. Festival booths will line the streets with nature-themed “Exploration Zones” from the intersection of Keawe and Pohukaina to the intersection of Coral and Auahi, with additional attractions inside The Barn at SALT at Our Kakaʻako.
“Our Keiki Street Festival creates an urban piko for outdoor learning through play, with opportunities to engage in culturally-rooted activities, exploring the wonders of nature through an array of community programs,” said Pualani Hao, Kamehameha Schools director of planning and development. “Whether people live in Our Kaka‘ako or come to spend the day, we want everyone to gain a deeper sense of the rich heritage and innovative opportunities that define this neighborhood.”
Designed for keiki ages 5 through 13, the Keiki Street Festival “Exploration Zones” will feature a variety of hands-on activities rooted in Hawaiian culture and favorite local pastimes. Walk through an interactive wave installation in the Kai (Sea) Zone, or venture over to the ‘Imi Loa (Explorer) Zone where you can create Hawaiian comic book superheroes and print a 3D replica of yourself. In the Kula (Fields) Zone, keiki can channel their inner paniolo at the petting zoo, which will feature sheep, bunnies, a mini horse and more!

Rideshare to the event, or park at the SALT at Our Kaka‘ako parking garage at 333 Keawe Street or The Flats at Pu‘unui parking garage at 440 Keawe Street. Additional free event parking will be available at the Waterfront Plaza parking garage at 500 Ala Moana Blvd. Families are also welcome to bring their scooters, skates and bikes to take advantage of the safe, open streets to cruise through Kaka‘ako in a unique way!
The Keiki Street Festival is a free, family-friendly community event sponsored in part by Kamehameha Schools, the Kaiāulu ‘o Kaka‘ako Owners Association, Hawaiian Electric Company and Waiākea Hawaiian Volcanic Water.
