24 No ka mea, ʻaʻole i hemahema ko kākou lālā maikaʻi; akā, ua hui pū mai ke Akua i nā mea o ke kino, a ua hāʻawi mai hoʻi i ka mahalo nui ʻia i nā lālā i hemahema: 25 I ʻole ai e kūʻē nā mea o ke kino, i mālama like hoʻi nā lālā kekahi i kekahi.- Korineto I 12:24-25

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.- I Corinthians 12:24-25

Growing up, I loved playing basketball. It was more than just a game to me, it was an escape from reality. I would spend hours shooting hoops in the driveway, imagining myself making the, winning shot in the championship game. But one day, during a game with some friends, I realized that basketball was teaching me more than just how to shoot a ball into a hoop.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, Paul writes, "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." Playing basketball taught me the importance of hard work and discipline. Just like athletes train for a game, we must train ourselves spiritually in order to receive the prize that lasts forever.

Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Playing basketball with my teammates has taught me the importance of having a support system. We pushed each other to be better and cheered each other on during the game. In the same way, we need to surround ourselves with people who will encourage us in our faith and push us to grow.

Finally, James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood, the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love, him." Playing basketball taught me that perseverance is key to success. We will face trials in life, but if we keep pushing and keep our eyes on the prize, we will receive the crown of life that God, has promised to us. Nothing in this life is easy, it is all about the trials and tribulations in life. Without struggle you will never know how good something feels.

In conclusion, I use my experiences with basketball and life to fulfill my love for God. He can teach me lifelong lessons through things you would not imagine. He is always watching and that is a good thing.
