Kamehameha Schools is partnering again with the Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau Federation (HFBF) to create Hawaiʻi’s largest country market and plant sale at this year’s 53rd Annual Hawaiʻi State Farm Fair in an effort to create a sustainable future.

Approximately 12,000 square feet of plants, produce and food are up for sale this weekend, Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 at Kualoa Ranch. Many of the items took root on Kamehameha Schools’ 88,000 acres of high-potential agricultural lands.

The country market and plant sale is an example of KS partnerships with the HFBF and the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture to increase the production of local food. KS’ involvement with the Farm Fair extends back numerous years.

This year, KS is also sponsoring a Cooking Demo on Saturday and a Keiki Cooking Demo on Sunday. Both demonstrations are scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. in the main tent.

Saturday’s cooking demo will feature Maya Merrifield, a certified natural chef with a passion for all things healthy. Chef Merrifield will be making chocolate avocado mousse and mango jalapeno salsa using produce from farmers on KS land.

Sunday’s keiki cooking demo will feature last year’s Mahiʻai Match-Up first place winner, Holoholo General Store. Holoholo sisters, Elisabeth and Emily Beagle will be making their popular cowboy caviar with vegetables provided by farmers on KS land. This unique vegan dish doesn’t require any cooking and is a healthy and refreshing salad for the summer.

“We are grateful to Kamehameha Schools for being a strong supporter of the Hawaii State Farm Fair,” said Brian Miyamoto, Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau Federation executive director. “It is though their sponsorship and support of the Farm Fair that we are able to create a memorable experience for countless families and keiki who attend this annual event.”

The fair will also feature ‘ono food, entertainment, keiki activities, food-eating contests, and a “Buy Local” education pavilion.
