Kamehameha Publishing shares new titles at Hawai‘i Book and Music Fest

Kamehameha Publishing is among the 25 exhibitors at this weekend’s 10th Annual Hawai‘i Book and Music Festival and will offer keiki games, prizes and a 20 percent discount on Hawaiian books at its booth.

Among the titles featured will be Dr. Kamana Beamer’s “No Mākou ka Mana: Liberating the Nation,” which recently received the Samuel M. Kamakau Award for Hawai‘i Book of the Year from the Hawaiʻi Book Publishers Association.

The family-friendly festival will be held at the Frank F. Fasi Civic Grounds at Honolulu Hale, on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to exhibits, the fest will also feature ‘ono food, Hawaiian music, hula performances and keiki activities. Admission and parking are free.

Kamehameha Publishing authors will discuss their books at the Alana Hawaiian Culture Pavilion.

SATURDAY, MAY 2

Panel discussion:
“Hawaiian Sense of Place”

Included on the panel will be KS Kapālama Middle School Social Studies teacher Collette Akana and daughter Kiele Gonzalez, a KS Hawaiian Language Publishing Specialist, authors of “Hānau ka Ua: Hawaiian Rain Names.” The highly-anticipated book will be the fullest record of Hawaiian rain names and their lore to date.

Panel discussion:
“New News in Old News”

Dr. Kamana Beamer, author of the award-winning book, “No Mākou ka Mana: Liberating the Nation,” will be among the panelists discussing the use of Hawaiian language newspapers for research.

SUNDAY, MAY 3

3:00 p.m.
Authors of the forthcoming Kamehameha Publishing book, “Native Hawaiian Law: A Treatise,” will discuss the book in detail as it provides a definitive reference for understanding critical issues for Native Hawaiians.
