According to its newly released annual report, Kamehameha Schools is committed to a new vision focused on fostering higher rates of success in postsecondary education, career, and leadership among Native Hawaiian learners.
During the 2015 fiscal year, the trust made significant strides toward fulfilling its educational mission by serving more than 46,000 Hawaiian learners. KS invested $336 million in educational spending, consisting primarily of $172 million on campus-based programs and $106 million on community-focused programs.
The trust’s mission is fully supported by the endowment of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, which includes Hawaiʻi real estate and global financial assets. As of June 30, 2015 the endowment had a fair market value of $11.1 billion and achieved a return of 3.9 percent, exceeding the trust’s performance targets for the fiscal year.
The annual report was produced by KS’ Communications Group led by Vice President Kevin Cockett. The creation of the report was a kākou effort, as are most Kamehameha Schools projects.
“Even though we make a conscious effort to keep the annual report relatively short, there is a lot of information conveyed in the piece, and it takes a lot of work to put the publication together,” said annual report editor Ed Kalama.
“Most of that work comes in gathering our education and financial highlights, so kudos to Casey Brown and Matthew Corry of KS’ Strategy and Innovation Knowledge Management team for providing up-to-date education numbers, and Controller Keliʻi Anderson who ensured the accuracy of our financial data.
“The information will also be used to update our yearly KS Facts and Statistics brochure scheduled to be released in early 2016.”
