Respiratory illness

We want to extend a sincere mahalo to everyone in our school community for your commitment to the well-being of our lāhui. Your cooperation and support during the pandemic have been invaluable. As we transition to a new chapter, we look forward to your continued cooperation and support in prioritizing safety. CDC and Hawai‘i DOH has recently updated their COVID-19 guidelines, where COVID now falls under their Respiratory Illness category. The COVID isolation period is no longer set to a minimum of 5 days and is now based on symptom severity and improvement.

If you or your child have developed respiratory symptoms, you should seek care from your primary care provider and stay home until fever free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medications) and other symptoms are mild and improving.

When returning to work or school take additional precautions for 5 days. These can include the following:

  • Masking
  • Increased hygiene including hand washing
  • Monitoring symptoms and potentially testing if symptoms improved but then worsen or new symptoms occur

If you or your child have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 you are not required to stay home but should monitor for symptoms, seek care from your primary care provider, and follow the recommendations above.

Please contact your respective Health Room if you have any questions.
