Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi College Scholarship Applications Now Available

Applications for Kamehameha Schools’ Nā Ho‘okama a Pauahi Scholarship program for the 2017-18 school year, are now available online at www.ksbe.edu/programs. The deadline to apply is February 17, 2017, but applicants are encouraged to apply early.

The application window for college scholarships moved earlier than in the past this year, aligning to the new application window for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). With deadlines moving to earlier dates, applicants will now be able to use tax forms from the previous year in their applications, no longer needing to file their most recent taxes early to fulfill the needs of the application. So applicants this year can use their 2015 tax information and documents.

Nā Ho‘okama a Pauahi scholarship is an annual award, determined annually based on an applicant’s financial and educational circumstances. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of Hawai‘i, full-time, classified, degree-seeking students that have financial need and meet maximum funding guidelines. Renewal applicants are given a preference, but scholarship awards are not guaranteed, as applicant circumstances may change from year-to-year.

In the 2016-2017 school year, Nā Ho‘okama sent award letters to 2,100 native Hawaiian college students totaling over $13 million.

Kamehameha Schools’ policy is give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law. If you are applying for a KS financial aid or scholarship award and would like to be considered under this preference policy, you must verify your Hawaiian ancestry through the KS Ho‘oulu Hawaiian Data Center by the program deadline date.

For more information and links to the applications, visit www.ksbe.edu/college.
