Explorations Series students experience Koʻolauloa, Oʻahu

July 22, 2015

Although Oʻahu is the most developed of Hawaiʻi’s islands there are still places where Hawaiian culture is thriving. Students in Kamehameha’s Hoʻomākaʻikaʻi, Kūlia I Ka Pono, and Hoʻolauna Koʻolauloa summer enrichment programs explored Oʻahu recently to learn about fishponds, food gathering, how to grow kalo and how to make tapa.

The programs are part of KS’ Explorations Series of summer enrichment opportunities. The series encompasses the three different one-week boarding programs. Each provides hands-on cultural learning experiences for students of a specific grade level.

KS Photographer Michael Young tagged along with the students on their island adventure.
