KS sponsors farm fair pa’i ‘ai-eating contest

July 15, 2016

Kamehameha Schools turned the typical state fair pie-eating tradition on its ear recently by sponsoring the Hawaii State Farm Fair’s first-ever paʻi ʻai-eating contest! Paʻi ʻai is undiluted poi, a Hawaiian staple food. The contest took place on the opening day of the fair at Kualoa Ranch, and featured a round for adults and one for keiki. Some contestants admitted to trying paʻi ʻai for the very first time. The following video features a glimpse at the fair and the winner of the keiki contest who came all the way from Austin, Texas. Kamahaʻo K. beat out seven other contestants to be declared the winner. Mahalo nui to everyone who participated, cheered them on, and attended the fair in support of local agriculture and farmers.
