About me

Aloha! My name is Catherine Honda. I am originally from the island of Molokai. I attended Kualapu'u Elementary School until 6th grade. I attended Kamehameha Schools as a boarder from 7th-12th grade. As a child, I remember always having a desire to be a teacher. After high school I attended Brigham Young University in Hawaii and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I also received my 5th year Professional Diploma from Brigham Young University. I received my Master's Degree in Education from Chaminade University. I taught 6th grade for one year at Kahalu'u Elementary School and then taught 3rd grade for five years. When Kamehameha Schools Maui Campus first opened in 1996, I was hired as the 1st grade teacher. Soon after moving to Maui, I met my husband Vance, and now we are the parents of 3 wonderful children, Bailey, Holly, and Mandy. Our family likes to travel, shop, eat out, and worship together at church. We enjoy any time that we have to be together. After teaching 1st grade for 17 years, I transferred to Kindergarten when Mrs. DeLima had a vision to create smaller class sizes to strengthen student learning through more one-on-one contact and learning. This is my 4th year teaching Kindergarten. I love being with children and helping them learn and grow. I am grateful for Pauahi's legacy and for the opportunity that I have to give back by helping more of her children learn.
