On November 27th, 2019 the Kula Waena haumāna participated in celebrating Lā Kūʻokoʻa. Lā Kūʻokoʻa is the Hawaiian Independence Day and this year it fell on Thanksgiving November 28, 2019. Students from all campuses raised awareness of this forgotten Hawaiian Holiday by waving signs in the morning and then they were treated to sessions such as Hae Hawaii making, programming in Hawaiian, and Hawaiian sway. To close the celebration, we held our Makahiki games at the field. Haumāna and the staff had a great time celebrating our heritageʻs important holiday.

Big mahalo to all who made this day happen and to our participants. We look forward to next year in celebrating our Hawaiian Independence Day.
