Aloha mai kākou! Eia mai au ʻo Moani Kekahuna. My love for teaching began at Baldwin High School. In my Hawaiian Language class, I was asked to become a student aid to help other students. During the summers, I was a teacher's assistant at Pūnana Leo O Maui, our Hawaiian Language Immersion Preschool. After graduating high school, I attended Maui Community College and earned an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts. Then, I enrolled and graduated from University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction through the University of Phoenix.I am currently a grade seven Hawaiian language teacher at Kamehameha School Maui. I taught eight years in the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program at Kalama Intermediate School before teaching at Kamehameha. This is my sixth year here. I am also the Hawaiian Language teacher in our hula school, Hālau Keʻalaokamaile, under the direction of Kealiʻi Reichel. I have been teaching in hālau for over twenty years.I believe middle school is my calling. Although this is a tough age and a challenging time in a youth's transitioning life, I truly love working with middle schoolers. They make my job fun and interesting and they keep me on my toes!
